The problem with part-time tax reporting

Choosing to work full-time while reporting part-time work is a personal decision. If this is declared for a short period, there may be fewer challenges. However, for long-term declarations, please keep the following in mind:

If the tax department becomes suspicious, whether you are an employee or a business owner, they have the authority to verify if your income is sufficient to cover living expenses, or if there are any undeclared sources of income.

If the tax department investigates, be prepared for them to ask about household expenses, such as:

  • Rent

  • Council tax

  • Electricity/Gas

  • Telephone

  • Internet

  • Commuting costs

  • Insurance

  • Family food expenses

  • Family activities

  • Travel expenses, etc.

If your total expenses exceed your reported income, this can create complications for our accounting team. For clients who have applied for benefits, the tax department has the right to visit your home to assess your family’s living situation. They also have the authority to request access to all family bank accounts, including any closed accounts.
